My Dyson! Notice the clean area rug and hardwood floors?
A few weeks ago, I received an invitation to attend a Dyson event at the TIFF Lightbox. I immediately replied: “How did you know my carpets needed vacuumed? Would love to attend this event.”.
I’m not kidding. I moved into my apartment at the end of September and purchased an area rug in October. Guess what hasn’t been vacuumed since? This event could NOT have been more timely.
At the event I learned more about Dyson and the team of 700 engineers who work on these innovative products. I was in awe of the determination of James Dyson (the founder) to make the first vacuum that has balls. (their words, not mine). Dyson has a great product and a great ad campaign. Everywhere I go, people are talking about Dyson. Either they have one or they want one. This is the type of buzz every brand dreams of!!
As for my “vacuum cleaner” history – it goes likes this:
Childhood: Grew up with an Electrolux that was shlepped around and hit every wall known to mankind. I can still hear my mother shrieking “watch the walls” as I did my chores.
University: Lived in Israel for 4 years and carpets arent really popular in hot climates. So for 4 years I didn’t see a vacuum.
Adulthood: Bought a stand up vacuum cleaner that lasted for years and then graduated to a house with central vac. Recently I moved into an apartment with hardwood floors and one small area rug.
I am delighted to finally own a DYSON so I can finally clean my floors and my area rug. Wouldn’t you know that my mom is visiting next week? Another reason, that this event was so timely.

I grew up with central, have used traditional old vacuums for a while and finallt bought a “pet” vacuum for home use. Also use a shop vac for metal bits in the basement. I’m a puller 🙂
I am a pusher and my university aged son could really use a vacuum so I’ll keep this one and give him my old but working vac.
I’m a “pusher” when I use a vaccum although the one we currently have is so heavy all the pushing in the world is required! Ha! P.S They don’t have many carpets in India either. I had to explain what a vacuum was to my grandmother.

I don’t know if I’m a pusher or puller! I guess I do both. I have the Dyson vacuum with the attachment for pet hair — and I’ve got to say, it sucks. Really! People come to my place and don’t even know I have two cats, because there’s no hair on the furniture. I loves it.

Puller. We have 3 dogs (2 huskies and an Aussie Shepherd) we use a shopvac because nothing else has been able to keep up. 🙂

OMG! You had me in stitches! I remember my Mom yelling at me as I hit every single doorway with that old Electrolux! Bang! Bang! Bang! and yanking my arm out of my socket each time it happened! Remember that? Ow! Would it ever hurt when I hit a doorway!
I’m a puller! Or I would like to be. Right now I have a push vacuum that is getting a bit long in the tooth! With four shedding cats in this house, there is a lot of fur that needs to be picked up, and our old vacuum isn’t up to snuff anymore! A new Dyson would be awesome!

I’m a pusher. Always have been, always will be…for everything. It started out with baby carriages with non-swivel wheels for my children and ending up to my self-propelled lawn mower. It’s always better to push – proactive – vs (be) pulled. Agree? LOL at my cleverness 😀

With two dogs (furry ones) and three cats – hardwood and area rugs, a Dyson would definitely be amazing. Probably more of a pusher than a puller, but a bit of both!

I grew up with a canister Electrolux too! I then got an upright but over time I realized I’m a canister girl at heart. Mine is now a few years old and just doesn’t suck like it should. I soooo want a Dyson that never loses suction! And I’m a pusher…

We’ve got an ancient cannister that’s seen better days…gives me a real work out though. With lots of allergies in our house it gets a real work out. I’m no pushover, but when it comes to vacuuming, I “push” into action to get the job done. My tekky son is very taken with the whole Dyson concept and fascinated by the way they work…would love to take one for a spin!
