I did it. I purchased a Blentec and I totally blame Costco for this. I kept passing that demo lady and just couldn’t resist.

My life for the last 3 days hasn’t been the same. I’m too excited for words that I’m now a proud owner of a Blendtec. I’m enjoying a lot of smoothies at the moment but my intention is to be making soups with it.

Things I’m loving about the Blendtec:

-I love the timer feature as I no longer  need to guess what 90 seconds is.

blendtec -countdown

-I love the easy to clean wide pitcher

-I love that it pulverizes everything

Things I’m not enjoying:

-it sounds like a 747 airplane

-I still have to cook my soup. I thought I cook just add raw vegetables and some stock and make a quick soup – WRONG. You really need to brown the onions.

-my freezer has no space as I bought these huge bags of frozen fruit from Costco.

It was an investment to purchase this Blendtec but I think it was a wise one.

On May 6th I ran the Toronto Half Marathon and then for some unexplained reason I got lazy.  I haven’t run….I haven’t been to a body pump class or even a zumba class. I have done NOTHING . Well not exactly. I have excelled in the sport called “eating”. Infact,  I have morphed into MOMWHOEATS.  That’s right….I have been eating and eating and eating and there seems to be more calories going in than going out.

BYE BYE BUTTER TARTS (sniff)

I was looking in the mirror and noticing that I was getting puffier by the nano second. Finally I said “ENOUGH” !! Time to do something about it. However I love food so much that I knew if I went the “low intake” approach…it wouldn’t work for me. So I decided to try something that worked for me eight years ago. I broke up with carbs.

This means:

-no more bread (ouch)

-no more pasta (double ouch)

-no more cereal

-no more bananas, apples, and oranges

-no more poutine (don’t get me started)

-no more chickpeas, kidney beans, legumes

However I have been enjoying:

-kale smoothies

a kale smoothie a day keeps the pounds away!!

-plenty of great salads with cheese and nuts

-blueberries/strawberries with whipped cream (its allowed)

-low carb beer.  A huge thank you to Molson for creating Molson Canadian 67 Sublime. It’s not perfect but it will do the trick. (67 calories, 1 carb)

These items are really helping!!

-plenty of egg whites with sauteed mushrooms

-tuna burgers, salmon, sole. I even bought sardines but havent brought myself to open the tin yet

Silk True Almond, unsweetened, vanilla. (30 calories with 0 % carb per cup). Totally impressed with this product.

– tofu shirataki noodles!! I can “pretend” Im eating pasta. Emphasis on the word “pretend”.

buying a few packs a week.

It’s now been almost two weeks since I broke up with carbs. It hasn’t been a picnic to give up sandwiches, cereals and all the other carbs I use to enjoy on a regular basis. However I can tell you this – I FEEL SO MUCH BETTER.

Curious to find out if you have ever tried this “lifestyle” before? or how many of you are trying not to eat wheat, sugar, etc?

I bought a Fabfind coupon for $20 to attend 5 boxing classes at Punch Fitness (1968 Avenue Road). I couldnt resist. It was in my neighborhood and I knew I would like it. Infact,  Im loving my workouts so much that after a few classes I tried “sparring”. The first time I watched two men spar, I said to myself “I can’t do that..how do you just go into a ring, and hit someone”. The next class I tried it and I have to admit, it was weird but I liked it. It was a great workout and fun. The following week I was actually EAGER to get into the ring.

momwhoruns is in the ring...sparring!!

When I get home, Im hungry  but not really hunger (do you know what I mean) ? I really want to eat something FRESH. So I whipped up a batch of fresh salsa.

All you need is: a few tomatillos, a lime, 2-3 tomatoes, cilantro, white onion. Tomatillos are not something you find in grocery stores, so when I see them I usually pick up a few with the intention of making this delicious salsa.

ingredients for fresh salsa!!

All you do is chop up the veggies, squeeze some lime juice over it and bingo – you have the best-est salsa EVER. Sometimes I add jalapeno – but this time I didnt have them on hand.

5 minutes later - fresh salsa

Oh yeah – I ate them with the most delicious tortilla chips that I bought in the States. Naturally I only bought one bag -what was I thinking?

I also made a kale smoothie:

All you need is: kale, a banana, an apple and orange juice or water.

Kale, Banana, Apple

End Product…

It felt great to have an awesome workout and to eat healthy after the workout too.

What’s your favorite post workout meal?
