I’ve got a confession to make. See this track? See this pool? Sadly whenever I need to count laps I’m simply UNABLE to keep track. Each time I get out there I really do try and each time I fail.

However, EPSON has solved my problems.  They’ve  introduced a line of watches (5 models to be exact) that help me out with this problem … and more! There’s 2 GPS Running Watches and 3 Multisport watches that were launched in early November and I was lucky enough to get a sneak peak.

Specifically the watch that I want to blog about today is the EPSON ProSense 307. Here’s why this watch is so amazing:

-Accurate GPS and Heart Rate

Multisport functions: 1. swim (pool or open water) 2. run (outdoor or indoor), 3. bike (outdoor or indoor).

-EasyView Display (no glare) and comfy silicon wrist band.

-Easy to use 5 button design and dedicated back button.

Up to 24 hour GPS Battery life (very cool feature) AND Activity Tracking (5 to 7 days) AND Watch Mode (30 Days).

This brilliant watch also features, VO2 Max Recovery Time and Training Effect Estimates, Music Control, Interval Training, Workout Alerts, Alarm Clock and Waypoint Navigation.

Plus there’s an app for automatic data upload that goes directly to all your personal devices.

Seriously, this watch has it all!!

If you don’t think you need all these features, there are different watches at a variety of price points.  Please consider looking at the entire range of EPSON watches which range in price from around $129 to $539. The difference in price reflects the difference in features and battery range however all of them are waterproof and have the same highly accurate components.

I was all to happy to give this watch to my boyfriend on the day of his first 5 km race. He wore it with pride and he enjoyed checking out all the functions. Not to mention his time for the race was a personal best. I’d like to think it had something to do with the watch!!

A few weeks ago I was invited to a pretty cool media event that included both healthy food and a wonderful workout. What a great combo!!

We got POM’ped up with POM Wonderful at a unique venue called Pursuit OCR Gym (444 Dufferin St).

The obstacle course at this gym was something I’ve never seen before and everyone was pumped to check it out.

See what I mean?

We started off with a warm up before challenging ourselves with this workout!

Then we were invited to cool down and enjoy a healthy POM Wonderful smoothie. Here’s the recipe so you can make one at home too!

Pomegranate Tropical Smoothie (serves 2)

3/4 cup of POM Wonderful 100% Pomegranate Juice

1 cup of frozen pineapple chunks

1 whole orange peeled

POM POM Fresh Arils for garnish.

Directions: In a blender combine all ingredients until smooth.

Now for some fun facts about POM Wonderful!

Summer is quickly passing us by and sometimes I can’t believe that September is just around the corner. I don’t know about you but there’s something about summer where I strive to eat more fruit and salads.

I’ve also tried to take advantage of this fitness track which is 100 ft from me.

At the same time, I must admit that some not-so-good habits have occurred. For example, I definitely ate way more than I should have at a recent cottage weekend, (but it was worth it). I also know that while watching The French Open and Wimbledon, I snacked even though I wasn’t hungry at all. #argghh.

The good news is that we can all refocus and get back on track!! September offers a fresh start and a chance to get back to healthy living. This can sound like a daunting task, but I’ve got a few tips to share that I know are going to help me form some healthy habits. Hope they help you too!!!

1. SLEEP: I don’t know about you but i’m always pushing the limit and going to bed about an hour too late. I know that I function better with the right amount of sleep so I really have to make this a priority.

2. VITAMINS: Trying to select the right vitamins and supplements for a healthier lifestyle can be overwhelming. However Jamieson Essentials makes it easy by identifying four products that best meet the health needs of Canadians.

With over 100 years of experience, Jamieson’s team of experts have done the work for you and have identified Multivitamin, Omega-3, Probiotics and Vitamin D as the four products Canadians should take EVERY DAY as a foundation for a healthier living. I couldn’t agree more and really do believe this.

3. EATING HABITS: I have to be more mindful of “why” I’m eating and “what” I’m choosing. I must. It’s not easy but It can be done, right?

4. EXERCISE: I’ve been wearing my Samsung Gearfit and I can’t believe how much I’m enjoying it. This watch really does remind me how active I am or how inactive I am. (which happens!!)

Here’s to a healthier Fall Season. Let’s embrace the colours, cooler temperatures and the seasonal produce as well!!

A few weeks ago I received an email about a new clinic called West End Mamas. I clicked on the link and had one of those moments where I said to myself – “Wow! What a great idea”. I immediately replied that indeed I would be happy to blog about this clinic as I’m always excited to share creative and entrepreneurial initiatives!!

This clinic is founded by Dr. Sarah MickelerCanada’s leading expert on prenatal and postnatal chiropractic care. The mission of the clinic is to is to provide total wellness for motherhood.

When you click on the website (which I hope you do)…you will find that this clinic offers everything a new mama would need for total wellness. There’s a wide range of services being offered at West End Mamas. For example: Chiropractor Care, Acupuncture, homeopathy, registered massage therapy, nutrition and dietician counselling, naturopathic medicine, doula services, pelvic floor physiotherapy, lactation and postpartum support and more!!

I have no doubt that each and everyone of these health care professionals, were carefully selected!

Two of their staff really intrigued me. The first is Allison Martineau, who believes in helping families cook and eat for health throughout the entire motherhood journey – something any parent knows can be a struggle, especially in those early days. I couldn’t help but think how valuable this would be for expectant moms trying to navigate a nauseous pregnancy while eating well!
The other is Tanya Smith. We hear a lot about reproductive health and technology these days, but not a lot about holistic solutions. Tanya is an acupuncturist and Chinese herbal medicine practitioner, with specialized training in supporting clients through their fertility treatment in partnership with a fertility clinic.

I also loved that this clinic offers child minding, lockers for your strollers, water in the waiting area, and a really easy to use website! Not to mention the location of this clinic is on the subway line.receptionIn their beautiful, light-filled 400 sq. ft. studio, they offer classes such as prenatal and postpartum yoga, childbirth preparation, breastfeeding and lactation support, and parenting skills such as Introducing Solids, Baby Wearing, and Mother Wellness.studioI really wish there was a clinic like this back in 1996 and 1999!! #LeSigh

Last week I took the subway and went to check out their space and to enjoy a massage. I was really impressed with the warm welcoming staff and the comfortable space they have created.  Not to mention that my massage therapist was skilled and asked all the right questions to ensure that I was comfortable and a happy client.

Once again, Momwhoruns hasn’t been running. Truth be told, I didn’t go to the gym once throughout the entire year. That’s right – not even once.

I wanted to go to the gym but simply didn’t have the physical time or the emotional strength. Since my dad passed away, I decided to go to synagogue on a daily basis (for either morning services or evening services) for an entire year. Going to services daily was something I had never done before and was a huge commitment. It certainly wasn’t easy but it felt like the right thing to do and I have no regrets.

My year of mourning has now ended and decided that going back to the gym would also be right thing to do. Guess what? I’m loving it.

My sister was getting great results (Yay Mandy) with a trainer and I decided to take the plunge as well and ask her trainer for some assistance.

Erin has a company called “30 In 30 Fitness.Which means $30 for 30 minutes of Fitness. LOVE IT. This concept fits my schedule and my budget. What’s not to love?

She’s got me doing a whole bunch of exercises that don’t require a gym or fancy equipment.

Not to mention I’m being more “mindful” of what I’m eating. Which is half the battle ..in my humble opinion.

I was so inspired that I even created a Pinterest Board with more exercise suggestions. Take a minute and check it out by clicking here!

I haven’t weighed myself but after two weeks I know that I’m less bloated. There’s something about getting off  NETFLIX or off of my computer and moving my body that actually feels good.

Not sure I’m signing up for a 10 km race this year but I’m definitely signing up to “get off the couch”. Know what I mean?

Looking forward to a healthier 2017.

Cheers!

I’ve been struggling with my weight for a long time. To be exact, I can remember going to Weight Watchers meetings with my best friend in Grade 7. A recent survey commissioned by Multi-Grain Cheerios examining young women ages 10-17 revealed some compelling stats:

3 in 5 women have been on a diet

52% of girls get their information about dieting and nutrition from family member

1 in 5 girls under 18 is currently dieting

I totally believe in these stats! I was also delighted to learn that Multi-Grain Cheerios is encouraging Canadians to take the first step in being a positive, healthy role model by taking the “Never Say Dieting Oath” at WorldWithoutDieting.ca.

As a mom  to two kids,  I’ve really tried hard to lead a healthy lifestyle and to be a positive role model. I try to serve healthy meals which include veggies, fruits, and protein and really do try to make as much from scratch as possible. Not to mention, I’m always heading to GoodLife Fitness to run on the treadmill.

food3Full Disclosure:  I was on a no carb diet for a year and a half but did not exercise at ALL during this time. As of October 2013, I got back on the treadmill and started to introduce (some) carbs back into my diet. It feels really good and it was the right thing to do. I really do love going to the gym and having the fuel in my body to run again or take a class.

I’m a huge fun of the word “healthy lifestyle” and thrilled to see that this campaign called “WorldWithoutDieitng.ca” exists. Please Take the NEVER SAY DIETING OATH and together we’ll make the next generation healthy – mind, body, and spirit.

I went to three Food Trade Shows in one week!!. As I walked thru the aisles of the CHFA show, I realized that I’ve mastered the skill of “sampling”. I can now add that to my list of skills on my Linkedin profile. (ha). This is the annual trade show for the Canadian Health Food Association and a great opportunity for me to find more new products to share with my readers (that’s you).

Here’s a few items that I’d like to share with you:

MONKEY TOAST:  These are flavour packed fruit crisps that are dairy free, and nut free. Ideal for kids and big kids too (like me).  I also adore their packaging and the fact that they are a Canadian company. (B.C. to be exact)

MACKIE’S CRISPS: All their potato crisps are suitable for vegetarians and their line up includes flavours like Haggis & Cracked Black Pepper, Scotch Bonnet Chilli Pepper and Aberdeen Angus steak. On a side note: My mom is from Scotland and I have family there so I have a soft spot for any product that is Scottish.

OHMBARS; This date and seed bar is Dairy free, Gluten free and is made in Ottawa (where I grew up). Naturally this caught my attention too.

CAPLANSKY’S MUSTARD:  I read on facebook about this new line of mustard and was delighted to see this new product at the Neal Brothers  booth. I sampled all of them (of course). Today I read that there’s a new menu being launched at Caplansky’s which means I really need to visit so I can try the mustard on meat instead on a pretzel!!

(note: stole this photo from Facebook. Hope you don’t mind Peter).

As always, had a great time wandering the aisles of this show. No shortage of new products to try!!
