I know I know….it’s hard to believe its August. But it’s here and there’s no shortage of things to do.
I will be off to Mont Tremblant and Ottawa in August so there goes two of my weekends. However some of these events are during the week and I will be there!!
Here’s my round up!
1. The St. Lawrence Market Summer Series – presented in partnership with The Food Dudes – kicks off Thursday, August 4 with a party like no other.
This innovative production merges cuisine and art in an iconic setting to create an unforgettable evening you won’t want to miss. (Which is why I will be there).
The St. Lawrence Market patios will be transformed into a downtown oasis of food, drink, music, performance and celebration, joining the Market’s storied purveyors with Toronto’s finest chefs, musicians and artists in a true feast for the senses.
$30 general admission (plus taxes & fees)

2. Toronto’s newest summer food festival, Feast of St. Lawrence Festival is taking place from August 12-14, 2016. The festival will begin with Toronto’s newest dining event on Friday evening in support of Foodshare Toronto. On Saturday, the celebration moves to the coveted St. Lawrence Market and Market Street. Activities include indoor food demonstrations using local farm-fresh produce, outdoor food stalls, canning sessions, and seating areas.

3. The CNE – Always my favourite. ps. You will find me in the food building. You might also find me on the ferris wheel too. LOL
5. If you like cider, then this event is for you….Toronto Cider Festival is taking place on Aug 27th at Yonge Dundas Square from 1130 am to 1030 pmLooks like August is going to be a tasty month!!

Recipe for Change is an event that supports FoodShareTO’s innovative school food programs that excite the next generation of healthy eaters, growers, and sharers. Clearly this is something that interests me!
It’s a PARTY you don’t want to miss. With 30 chefs reflecting Toronto’s diverse food scene, 2 craft brewers, and 4 wineries, February 25th, 2016 will be the most deliciously fun night of the year!
There’s a few reasons I like this event so much.
1. You will meet friendly chefs!
2. There’s something for everyone. i.e lots of vegetarian/vegan/gluten free options.
3. The environment!
The event takes place at the St. Lawrence Market South Building, 130 Esplanade, Toronto on Thursday February 25th from 6 pm to 9 pm.
Of course, I will be there and I hope that will be there too. I promise you that you won’t leave hungry plus you will be supporting an important cause!

This year I would like to share a quick interview I had with the Executive Director of FoodShare, Debbie Field.
1. Can you tell me the history of this event and how it has evolved over the years? We wanted an event that could highlight the amazing work we do in schools bringing food literacy to students of all ages, and we wanted to raise the needed money for the staff who deliver the food literacy workshops. The event combines both goals.
2. How does this event differ from other events? It combines some of the best food in town, a great sense of elegance with a grounded reality of a multi-ages, more women chefs and more diverse chefs than any other event of its kind. It therefore has an optimistic sense to it that I think is rare in fundraising events. It is one night with great food that will hopefully inspire everyone to be active in the movement for food literacy.
3. Describe where the money goes to? Field to Table Schools work teaching kids how to cook and grow food and be food literate.
4. Any advice for first time attendees? The venue is fabulous, the food is incredible, and it really is FUN. You will meet great people as everyone is very friendly. FoodShare is often referred to as a big family and the event feels that way.
5. What’s the best part of the event? The feeling that we are building a movement together for food literacy.

I’ve just returned from a “girls night out” where we checked out a new restaurant that is conveniently located right next to St. Lawrence Market. It’s called Market Street Catch. Please note that the owner also owns Buster’s Sea Cove which is located inside of St. Lawrence Market. This is code for “this will be a great place to order fish”.
I love the fact that it’s an open kitchen and you can see the fish that’s going to be in your meal!!
As for the menu – it’s listed on the wall. Here’s PART of the menu. Not sure why I only took one photo ..forgive me!
I couldn’t decide what to order so I asked the manager. He recommended the grilled octopus and he was right – it was perfectly grilled. Not chewy or tough at all!! I ordered it on a salad but you could order it with fries too.
My friend, ordered the fish taco and she was pretty happy with her meal too.
Next time you are in the mood for fish – this would be an ideal restaurant.

Here’s my definition of a Perfect Saturday (or Sunday…LOL).
1. Checked out a new bakery that (just) opened. Specifically…. Bakers and Scone (693 St. Clair Ave. West). Clearly I was not the only one excited about their opening as there was a line up when we arrived! The scones were perfect and they served a pretty decent Americano as well. I will definitely be returning.
2. Proceed to St. Lawrences Market to walk around. Naturally I bought some cheese but these products also captured my attention!
3. Stumbled upon a new restaurant, Market Street Catch, that just opened a week ago. I didn’t stay to eat but its now#onmylist.
4. Head over to Stillwater Spa as my boyfriend was going to enjoy his first massage as well as his first visit to a Spa.
5. Found out that Prairie Girl Bakery was celebrating their 1st anniversary at 150 Bloor St. W …. and scored a free mini cupcake!
6. Ended the day with a home cooked dinner!

I’ve just walked in from a FoodShare event that’s called Recipe for Change. It took place at the St. Lawrence Market (North Building) and is an event that features Toronto’s Top Culinary Talent while supporting good food education.
The venue was the perfect size and well spaced out. Guests had the opportunity to even sit down at a table and not just stand up and eat their food! Whoever did the floor plan did a great job.
As for the food: There was a variety of everything and no shortage of food OR drink. To be exact: 30 Chefs, 20 VQA wines and 6 local beers. What was noticeable, was the amount of vegetarian and vegan options. To sum it up – I’m STUFFED.
Yum.
I ate…I ate….I ate….I ate…
I ate some more….(in particular those oysters from Hooked. I was embarrassed how many I ate!!)
There was also an impressive Silent Auction that took place. I was super interested in the Women’s Deluxe Cruiser and should have placed a bid. Arghh – now I’m kicking myself. (Lesson.Learned).
Please keep this event on your radar for next year!! You will be supporting a great cause at the same time as enjoying a super well organized event.
