My life looks like this:

a) My kitchen has been in the process of being renovated since Feb. 10th. Last week the counter, sink and faucet were installed and let me tell you – this was a big deal as I had been washing dishes in my bathroom for 3 weeks. Still need to decide on the back splash and the paint colour but I’m 98% done and I’m really (really) happy with my new kitchen.

b) I went to the Saks Off 5th VIP Preview Party at Vaughan Mills. What made this event special was the fact that my daughter was the first customer (insert applause). Super impressed with this store…brands/price/selection and will definitely return to Vaughan Mills again.

c) It just dawned on me that I need to get my snow tires removed. So much to do and so little time.

d) I bought this heirloom tomato (for slightly over $5). I normally am pretty careful with my $$ but I was excited when the store owner told me that it was his first shipment of the season and just bought it without thinking. I’m going to cut it up over the weekend and eat it with  St. Albert Cheese Curds. Not a bad plan, right?

e) I’ve successfully pre-planned my upcoming birthday weekend and will be heading to Niagara Falls to do something I’ve never done before. Believe it or not, I’ve never stayed overnight in Niagara Falls.  Now I can scratch that off my bucket list. Stay tuned for a blog post.

f) I’ve been planning a dinner crawl with another foodie couple for Saturday April 9th. The plan is to head to Boralia for mussels, then hit Wenona Craft Beer Lounge for BBQ’ed meat  (and craft beer, of course) and then head to another restaurant for dessert. I can’t wait.

g) Finally got a PVR and can’t wait to start taping The French Open. I’m-a-tennis-junkie-and-I-am=proud.. #lifechanger.

h) I have a mental list running thru my head of all the stores I want to check out that have recently opened. My list looks like this:

H & M Home at Eaton Centre

Simons at Square One

-Saks Food Hall by Pusateri’s at Sherway Gardens

The question is WHEN? LOL.

Wishing everyone a great weekend!

About once a month I buy a box of party sandwiches for dinner or for a snack. There’s never ANY leftovers. EVER. I will repeat – EVER. I usually pick them up at Bruno’s, Pusateri’s, Daiters, or What A Bagel.

serve this with salad and/or soup and you have yourself a lovely dinner!!

When I was trying to figure out what to serve at my birthday party last week,  it dawned on me that party sandwiches would be a welcome change from the usual sushi platter.

I contacted Lesley’s Party Sandwiches & Catering and made fast friends with Lesley who also shared the same birthday as me!! (too funny). I found out that she’s been in business for 29 years and was the first independent party sandwich supplier in the city! I also found out that I could drop my off my platters and she would will fill them up with an assortment of party sandwiches, such as:

  • brie and fig preserve
  • cream cheese and cucumber
  • egg, tuna, and  salmon salad,
  • smoked salmon and cream cheese and MORE.

So I dropped off my platters and witnessed how party sandwiches are made! There is a reason why I’m not making party sandwiches!!

Perfectly Sliced Bread!!

Just before the party – they were delivered. HOW SWEET IS THAT? This is what my platter looked like. Pretty….Don’t you think?

This platter was empty at the end of the night. They were a hit

Lesley’s Party Sandwiches are perfect for baby showers, baby namings, tea parties, office parties, engagement parties, graduations and more!! She also makes a variety of salads and beautiful fruit platter and vegetable platters too. #justsayin’.

Disclosure: Lesley’s Party Sandwiches provided me with an assortment of party sandwiches. However all opinions are my own.

I have a feeling there are two camps for this holiday…the camp that dislikes this holiday and the camp that likes this holiday.

Personally, I like this holiday. This year, I am celebrating in style. Here’s what I will be doing.

a) I am going to the Cayman Islands. Thats right – by 3:30 p.m on Feb 14th – I will be on Seven mile beach. I went there last year, and had such a relaxing vacation, that I am going back to the same strip of sandy gorgeousness!!

Ideal Scenery for Feb 14th

b) I will be applying Body Shop  Shower Cream from their Chocomania collection, after a day in the sun as my skin will really need it. Trust me, I do nothing but lie on the beach. I know, I know…lying in the sun all day is not good for me but I promise I use a really good sunscreen. PS If you need a last minute gift – run to The Body Shop to buy any product from this Chocomania collection.

c) I will be eating my Neuhaus Chocolate. I buy myself ONE chocolate from Pusateris every year. True Story: I use to sell Neuhaus when I worked in the gourmet department at Holt Renfrew as a teenager.  I can still remember having a line up of dozens of men, waiting to by chocolates.

My Special Treat to Myself

d) I will be reading from my beloved Kobo ALL WEEK (not just on the 14th). I downloaded…Hillarity Ensues by Tucker Max (please don’t judge me), Bossy Pants by Tina Fey and Dreams of Joy by Lisa See. Probably in that order.

I love my Kobo!!

I simply can’t wait to celebrate Valentines this year…for many reasons.

Stay tuned for more blog posts from sunny Cayman Islands!!

Being a food sales rep, means that I have the opportunity to shop while I work. (shhh- lets keep this a secret).

One day while visiting Pusateris Fruit Market (497 Church Street) I stumbled upon a bag of Cookstown Greens Seasonal Heirloom Vegetables. It’s not cheap but when you eat every single vegetable in the bag – then nothing goes to waste. Plus Im supporting a local business. So after a few seconds of comtemplation, I bought the bag.

A Bag of Goodness!!

When I got home, I roasted them and then continued to buy this bag of vegetables almost every week throughout the entire winter. Then – poof –  they disappeared over the spring/summer. Sadness. However this past weekend, I discovered that they are back in season again. I scooped up a bag for $10 and then went home immediately to make them.

This is how I prepared them:

a) washed them

b) cut them in half

c) put them on a shallow baking pan.

d) added a bit of olive oil, salt and pepper .

e) 425 degree over for 45 minutes.

END RESULT:

OMG…these vegetables are dynamite. I hope you get a chance to try this “bag of goodness”  one day soon. It’s SO worth it.

I wanted to be at the opening of Pusateri’s today at Bayview Village Shopping Centre. I soon found out that there were 100’s of others who wanted to be at the opening of Pusateri’s too!

It was kinda exciting to stand outside the store, waiting for security to open the doors and watch everyone pour in to this BEAUTIFUL store.

I walked by the beautiful cheese section, passed the gorgeous desserts, strolled by the meats/fish, and couldnt help but notice the stunning fruit and vegetables. (grapes the size of my eyeballs – no joke)

When I saw the check out counter I thought to myself “hey, this looks like a boutique hotel”.

The whole store is black, and grey with a lot of light, and gorgeous marble. (atleast I think thats marble).

Its a sexy, sleek grocery store and I’m sure that the neighborhood is delighted.

So drop by Pusateri’s on your next visit to Bayview Village Shopping Centre. You won’t be disappointed.

Happy Grocery Shopping!!
